With the expanding application of various polymer materials, plastic reagent bottles are gradually widely used in the storage of chemical reagents. Polypropylene (PP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) are two commonly used materials for plastic reagent bottles. What are the differences in performance between the two materials?

1. Withstand temperature
Since HDPE embrittlement temperature is - 100 ℃ and PP embrittlement temperature is 0 ℃, when products need to be stored at low temperature, more reagent bottles made of HDPE materials are selected, such as Buffer buffer solution for storing 2-8 ℃ and enzyme reagent bottle for - 20 ℃ in diagnostic reagents; For products requiring high temperature storage, PP material should be selected.

2. Transparency:
PP is more transparent than HDPE, which is more conducive to observing the state of the materials stored in the bottle. However, at present, the PP bottles that are particularly transparent in the market are made of materials with transparent agent. Therefore, attention should be paid to the selection of reagent bottles made of PP.

3. Sterilization method:

In terms of sterilization method, the difference between HDPE and PP is that PP can be sterilized under high temperature and pressure, while HDPE cannot. Both can be sterilized by EO, irradiation (radiation resistant PP is required, otherwise it will turn yellow) and disinfectant.

4. Chemical resistance:

HDPE and PP reagent bottles at room temperature are both acid and alkali resistant, but the oxidation resistance of HDPE is better than that of PP, so HDPE reagent bottles should be selected when storing oxidizing materials; Low molecular weight solvents such as aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons can soften polypropylene and make it swell. Therefore, HDPE plastic reagent bottles should be used to store organic solvents such as benzene rings, n-hexane and chlorinated hydrocarbons.

5. Toughness and impact resistance:

Polypropylene (PP) has excellent bending fatigue resistance, but its impact resistance is poor at low temperature. However, the drop resistance of HDPE reagent bottles is much better than that of PP reagent bottles, so PP reagent bottles are not suitable for low-temperature storage.

Both polypropylene reagent bottles and high-density polyethylene reagent bottles have chemical reagent types suitable for installation according to the characteristics of materials. When selecting reagent bottles, the physical characteristics of chemical reagents should be considered.
